According to EMB, an electronic press kit is "a pre-packaged set of promotional materials."
EPKs are a condensed form of online press kits used for announcing an album or song by an artist and are vital as they can be distributed to blogs, press and more. They contain an updated biography of the artist, a tracklist (if it's an album) and more.
